The opportunity

The Senior Manager will be primarily responsible for supporting the Director of External Reporting & Technical Accounting, in the preparation of accurate and complete financial statements based on the applicable GAAP, as well as for managing the consolidated audit and external audit relationship. The Senior Manager will also be team lead for financial reporting projects, such as implementation of changes in accounting standards and will also provide guidance to the various business units as well as the Corporate office on technical accounting matters. The ideal candidate is a strong financial leader who is agile, motivated and looking for the opportunity to grow professionally within the organization.

 

The role 

  • Responsible for the oversight of the consolidated external quarterly and annual financial statements and preparation of the MD&A in accordance with IFRS.
  • Coordinate and lead activities with external auditors to ensure timely, accurate completion of the consolidated financial audit.
  • Lead technical accounting memos and provide guidance to the business units on implications.
  • Provide technical expertise and leadership to the finance organization on the treatment of accounting issues, implementation of new accounting standards, identify and assess accounting and reporting issues (including requirements to file Business Acquisition Reports).
  • Determine accounting treatment for corporate transactions such as debt arrangements, hedging contracts, and acquisitions. 
  • Keep abreast of emerging IFRS regulations and applicable Canadian and U.S. rules over financial reporting and ensure adoption and implementation across the organization with development of accounting policies, procedures, and financial statement disclosure.
  • Ensure financial integrity of data and ensure compliance with company policies for areas under this role and maintain proper documentation to support SOX audit. 
  • Lead and manage the preparation and review of all SEC reporting function, including annual report, 10K, 10Q, earnings release and XBRL tagging.
  • Responsible for the preparation and coordination of filing of all internal and external financial reporting, compliance with government and other regulators.
  • Supervise team of 2 direct reports; responsible for coaching, development and team succession planning

The requirements 

  • Professional Accountant (i.e. CPA - CA) with a bachelor’s degree in accounting;
  • Minimum of 10 years accounting experience and at least 5 years management level experience in external audit and/or a manufacturing and publicly reported company;
  • Comprehensive understanding of GAAP, IFRS, and other applicable financial reporting standards;
  • Clear and effective communication with stakeholders and team members;
  • Guidance and supervision of external reporting and accounting policies team;
  • Staying up to date with the latest financial regulations and compliance measures is crucial for ensuring that reports meet legal standards;
  • Working user knowledge of JDE, OneStream and/or Hyperion Financial Planning is an asset;
  • Focused and results driven but has the uncanny ability to understand the different perspectives within the organization and adjust his/her project management style to become a respected business partner within the organization;
  • Proven ability to undertake, manage, and execute projects geared towards the improvement of process and department efficiency;
  • Possesses developed multi-tasking skills and ability to succeed in a fast-paced working environment;
  • The individual must be motivated, provide strategic direction, and possess excellent business acumen, interpersonal and analytical skills;
  • Ability to effectively communicate and interface with cross-functional managers at all levels of the organization;
  • Readily voices opinions (supported by facts), escalate issues and ideas, and able to positively manage conflict;
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Excel and the use of its complex formulas and various reporting capabilities; 
  • Developed ability to efficiently leverage presentation software such as Microsoft PowerPoint and/or Think-Cell in preparation of management presentations;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in both English and French, Spanish is an asset;
  • This position requires proficiency in a language other than French to support customers, employees or markets located outside the province of Quebec or requiring services in a language other than French – mainly English.
