The opportunity

The Finance Analyst will coordinate, compile and track selling, administrative and marketing expenses for the SMD division. This position sits within the Financial Planning & Analysis Department, reporting to the Manager, Financial Planning & Analysis.

The role

  • Coordinate with various stakeholders to gather and consolidate the department’s budget, including building an annual Detailed Marketing Expense Model and updating the model quarterly. In the model, every expense is planned monthly by project, type of expense and country.
  • For marketing expenses: collect and track all invoices, identify the GL accounts and Business Units where expenses are to be booked and ensure that the spend status is accurately entered into the Detailed Marketing Expense Model.
  • While working in collaboration with Accounting and Treasury departments, understand the accounting treatments of the marketing expenses (i.e. expensed, accrued, prepaid, etc.) and reconcile the treatment of the marketing expenses between the marketing plan and the accounting treatment monthly.
  • Develop and maintain Excel models and reports to optimize the budgeting and reforecast processes, review, investigate and explain the variances between the actual results and the forecast monthly.
  • Prepare and distribute the monthly expense report to VPs and document variances between actual, forecast and prior year expenses.

The requirements 

  • A bachelor’s degree in accounting/finance/economics. 
  • At least two (2) years of accounting, business finance or other related experience. 
  • An accounting/financial title (ACCA, CPA, CMA, CGA) would be an asset. 
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office software and advanced knowledge of Excel formulas and functions. 
  • Knowledge of Hyperion Financial Planning and Business Intelligence tools (QlikView / Tableau) would be an asset. 
  • Strong analytical and data gathering skills.
  • A proactive self-starter with the confidence and curiosity to take initiative. 
  • Proficiency with financial modeling and techniques. 
  • Demonstrated ability to succeed in a performance-driven culture. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.
